Field Day Was a Win

Every grade · Every staff member · Best weather of the year

  • The whole school, one big day. Every child, every staff member, and an army of parent volunteers made Field Day flawless. Big thanks to the planning committee: Chrissy, Colleen, Erika, Erin, Lisa, May, and Michelle.
  • Thank you, volunteers. None of this happens without you. The parents and staff who showed up to run stations, hand out lunch, and keep the day moving are the reason it was so memorable.
  • The weather delivered too. We could not have asked for a better day, and the kids felt it from start to finish.
  • See the day in pictures. Every class has a beautiful class photo, plus action shots and candids, all in the Google album. Even if you only look for one thing, find your child's class photo.

Moving Up Ceremonies

Kindergarten June 16 · Fifth Grade June 17 · 10am in the gym

  • Two ceremonies, same week. Kindergarten moves up Tuesday June 16, fifth grade Wednesday June 17. Both are at 10am in the gym, on regular school days with normal arrival.
  • RSVP if you're coming. You should have a Google form to confirm attendance, up to 4 people per family. If you haven't filled it out yet, do it quickly.
  • Younger siblings don't count. Other Connors kids are brought to the gym automatically and don't count in your four. Pre-K siblings must be signed out by a parent the usual way.
  • Light refreshments to follow, with time for photos. Kindergartners also get special end-of-year gifts from the PTO.

Raising Capable Kids Who Contribute at Home

May Flam · Certified Coach & Connors Mom

  • Drop "chores" and "help." May's first move is a reframe. Kids aren't helping us, they're part of the team. The home is our most important organization, and they're capable contributors in it.
  • Explain the mental load. Walk kids through the noticing, planning, and doing behind everyday tasks. "How did the mustard get in the fridge?" turns an invisible job into something they understand.
  • Set roles outside the moment. Avoid frazzled, in-the-moment orders. Talk about roles ahead of time, give kids a choice, teach the skill, and review regularly as their abilities change.
Sending Them Off Right

A Big Send-Off for Fifth Grade

Trip day · District-wide dance · Scavenger hunt this week

  • Best day ever at NRG Adventure Park. Fifth graders jumped, slid, and swung at the Springfield park, then came back for a pizza lunch, karaoke party, ice cream sundae station, and time in the Koala Cave.
  • Three schools, one dance floor. The district-wide fifth grade dance brought all three elementary schools together with a DJ, photo booth, and amazing decorations. Pictures coming in this week's Scoop.
  • Scavenger hunt across Hoboken. A two-day, staff-organized hunt through town is happening this week, with parent volunteers leading the way.
  • Yearbooks are coming. Fifth graders will get their yearbooks to sign by the end of next week, and so will everyone else.
